By the person, patterns and legends engraved on it, the dimensions of the coin and what it appears to made from.
You need to give us a bit more information, particularly what is the main motif on the coin (Britannia, a shield, etc.) and an estimate of what the coin is made out of (gold, silver, copper, etc.) and then we can better identify what it is and hopefully get you a value.
Bring it to a reputable coin dealer and they will identify it and give you an opinion on its authenticity. Most coin dealers will not charge you for this service.
