You want to ensure the file name extension (format) of the audio is compatible with Windows Movie Maker before attempting to import it into the program.
Audio formats compatible with the program include:
.aif, .aifc, .aiff, .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, .wma
If the audio file is compatible, simply click Import Media on the top menu in the program. Locate the file you wish to use and click Import. Once the file is visible in the Imported Media viewing pane, drag it down and drop it into the Audio/Music track.
