There are several aspect to improving memory. You can practice using your short-term memory, such as looking at a picture for 5 seconds and then trying to remember as many items in it as possible. Alternatively, if you are easily distracted, consciously focus on what you want to remember. Taking notes can help.

Mnemonics can help, such as creating unusual mental images or memorable sentences. For example, "Oh, be afine girl, kiss me" was a mnemonic created to remember the classification of stars: O B A F G K M. Another example is "King Phillip came over from Greece Saturday" for biological classification: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.

Health is also an issue, although this is more often associated with improvements in long-term memory. Exercise can increase oxygen to your brain and thus may enhance brain performance. Be sure to get enough sleep. Reduce stress if possible. Eat healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables.
