The set consists of two scraper rings, very thin, and thicker, usually "corrugated" spacer or expander. Install the spacer first onto the piston, taking care that the ends do not overlap, but will butt against each other. This is to assure that the expander does indeed keep the scrapers pressed against the cylinder wall after installation Then, starting about 1/3 around from the point where the ends of the spacer meet, install the bottom scraper by gently twisting the ring across its diameter so that one end is lower. Place this lower end into the ring grove below the spacer, then gently work the scraper down the side of the piston until it is fully in the grove below the spacer. Throughout the process, continue to make sure the ends of the spacer do not overlap (very easy to do, so be careful here) Install the top scraper in the same manner as the bottom scraper. Once done, and the compression rings (the two top rings) have been installed, lubricate generously with your favorite engine oil prior to installing in the cylinder Rick Morrison
