Call ME I'm a Plumber! You want know about just the shower head? well that's easy and well for you it might be hard! Okay calm down, take your headache meds and listen! Almost all shower heads are 1/2 IPS (iron pipe size) and they need Teflon tape. Now knowing nothing of the situation your in , I'm going to guess your shower head sprays water everywhere but on you in the shower. Take a wrench and turn counter clockwise on the shower head nut (not the chrome pipe) make sure shower is off! lol ,once the shower head is off clean the treads with wire brush or something so the threads are clean. Look at your new shower head and inside the female threads look and see if there is a rubber washer. If there is a rubber washer then you can twist it on with out anything else but make sure you don't over tighten it because sometimes it drips if you have too tight. To do this just tighten hand tight and turn shower on ( stand out of shower if don't want to get wet) then slowly tight with wrench or (hands if it has ears ) till it don't drip from nut then tighten 1/4 turn more. If you don't see a rubber seal in your new shower head (if you will see a plastic washer you still need telfon) then you need to put telfon tape on the chrome threads to do this you need to put about 6"-10" of teflon tape wrapping clockwise around the chrome threads starting at the edge of the threads, some cheaper models may need more teflon tape and you need to go 1 to 1 1/2 turns after hand tight with a wrench. Be careful not to move the chrome pipe while changing the shower head because I've been to alot of service calls because they broke it off and it can be a pain to replace.
