You'll have to go out and buy the newer software.
From there, it'll probably have a CD or something to install it onto your computer (not entirely sure, since I've never done it).
But there would be instructions that comes with it, that would be able to explain the process to you.

You don't have to install a newer version of Windows - however - you may have problems installing software designed to work with the latest version on older machines.
You need an older version of windows on a bootable memory stick or disk. you need to backup all the stuff you want to keep, or you'll lose it. Then reboot your computer pressing F12 or F8, or whatever you have to press on your computer to boot from another source. Then follow the instructions provided to install the older version of windows that you want. MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP ALL THE STUFF YOU WANT TO KEEP!!

Many will, but some will not. If the program does not install / run normally, try running it in Compatibility Mode. Some older games may also have problems with newer commodity hardware that does not support older versions of DirectX.

If you have the Windows Operating System on your mac, then yes. Some newer models of macs are able to go into Mac mode or Windows mode, but the older ones are incapable of such a switch. You should see what model you have and ask Mac technical support if your computer can do such a thing.

There shouldn't be any problems with the device. Windows 7 is pretty good at detecting and installing older devices.

Update to the newest version of the software to resolve the system crashes. If there is no newer version of the software, uninstall the problem version and install an older version.
