Thermostat Removal & Installation Drain and recycle the engine coolant. Remove the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing. Remove 2 thermostat housing retaining bolts and remove the housing. Remove the thermostat and O-ring from the lower intake manifold. Discard the O-ring. To Install: Clean the O-ring sealing surfaces. Install a new O-ring, on the thermostat and position the thermostat in the lower intake manifold. Place the thermostat housing on the lower intake manifold and install 2 retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm). Fill the engine cooling system. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature while checking for coolant leaks. Road test the vehicle and check for proper engine operation. Check the coolant level and add if necessary.
