You have to hold the dog in your hands while letting it interact with the cats at the same time. Do NOT however, hold the cat because if it gets scared it will want to run away and if you are holding it while it wants to do that. Try this over and over again until the cat and dog get used to each other. If they really do not get along, you will need to consider another dog (breed).
it is best to introduce them when the dog is a puppy, let them stay in the same area; this (in time) should get your dog used to cats =]
Very carefully and a little bit at a time.
you don't
A Golden Retriever is very friendly which make it go well with cats. However, I think it depends on how you introduce them to each other. Here's a topic on introducing dog to cat, http://dogtime.com/introducing-dog-and-cat.html
Cats have already been introduced to Europe.
Pet owners with more than one pet need to know there is a 'pecking' order and your cats were there first so you need to train your dog to heed your cats. Introduce your new dog by putting the cats in another room, door shut and let the new dog sniff around the house and then put it on a leash. Let the cats out. They will be curious and their hair may even stand up at the sight of the dog, but cats aren't stupid and they will soon realize the dog is part of the family. Also after a few scratches the dog will get to know it's place in the family and stay clear of the cats. I have two dogs and a cat and they get along well together. I find it harder to bring another cat into the house with already having a cat, than bringing a dog in. Sometimes my friends will bring their dogs in my home and my cat has no problem. I use a scratching post with 3 carpeted stands on it and it's about 4 feet high. I leave it in the corner of my front room. This gives the cat(s) a place to go if they feel nervous. This helped me with my cat a great deal.
The best way to calm a new dog is to slowly introduce them to their environment. Allow them to explore at their own pace rather than forcing them.
You put the dog in front of the dog.
Introduce them outdoors, first have the two on leashes and look at their body language. Make sure the new dog is familiar with other dogs, and your existing dog is okay with other dogs. Make sure there is no hair sticking up, or teeth baring, also be calm. If your existing dog senses that you're uncomfortable, then it will go in protecting mode.
A small dog breed that typically gets along well with cats and has a calm temperament is a Maltese. They are known to be gentle and companionable, which may help facilitate a peaceful coexistence with your two cats. Introduce them slowly and under supervision to ensure a smooth transition.
Despite the cliché about fighting like cats and dogs, it's perfectly possible for the two species to live happily under one roof. However, it's also possible for a cat to injure a dog, and for a dog to seriously hurt or even kill a cat. To keep everyone safe, separate your new dog and your resident cat at first; then introduce them carefully.
No they do not.
