How do you join a team whilst in text mode on Team Fortress 2?

Allow me to clarify my own question. Please do not say "You get items just by using spectate". I f*cking know. I need to know how to join a team and pick a class whilst using -textmode.

Mann vs. Machine is game mode within Team Fortress 2. If you have the game, you have the game mode. To play Mann vs. Machine, select "Co-Op" in the main manu. Boot Camp is the free option, wheras Mann Up Mode is the "paid" mode.
