someone told me that they put wax on the lotus flower. I don't know what type wax. I don't know if there's a spray (if there is such a thing). I'm trying to research what to do because I will include them in a floral arrangement. They need to be open for the exhibit.
Buddha used the lotus flower as an analogy of how a persons mind can be transformed and reach serenity. He said that the lotus starts its life in the mud of the river, but slowly seeks the sunshine and finally rises above the river into bloom. Our minds are like that, until we work to free oursleves from conflicted emotions and desires and reach the serenity of nirvana, we are stuck in the mud of samsara, which is this crazy world of illusions.

Because plants that flower at night are usually pollinated by night flying insects like moths.
I have some waterlilies growing in my koi pond. They will push up a lotus blossom every few months. You will see them come to the surface of the water over the course of a week and finally they will come through the surface When they do this they will open up with the morning sun and remain open all day. Then come evening they will close up for the night. They will do this for about 4-5 days and then sink back down into the pond and not come up again. Hope this helps.
Cam plants close during the night and open during the day because they are photosensitive and respond to light. To do it experimentally, try with a torch for some time.
Flowers that open at night do not have any scent what so ever. The cytoplasm engages a reactant in the bud of the flower. This results in the hault of all smells.
That the pollinator is nocturnal, something like a moth or a bat
Because of moon and the night flying insects like moths pollinate them so they open at night only
Lotus leaves roll up into spherical shapes when introduced to water.
