  • No food & drink should be too near the PC.
  • Schedule usage so that one has regular breaks from the computer.
  • Defective plugs, cables equipment etc must be for repaired/replaced.
  • Liquid spills must be mopped up immediately (although no liquid should be nearby anyway).
  • For children aged 10 and under: Supervision is prude

Keep it cool - heat is your worst enemy. There are lots of utilities available that will monitor your temperature for you. Periodically open up your case and remove all the dust will some compressed air. Keep your cables out of the way so that you have decent air flow throughout the case.

Buying high quality components, especially your power supply, will go a long way towards making sure it is around for a while.

Finally, get a decent surge protector or UPS.
