Depends on what you are planning/traveling on/in. Personally I would suggest pepper spray but only use as a last resort- ie no random spraying of anybody that looks at you funny. Also just use your street awareness if you're late for a buss don't rush across a road without looking my mate did that and wasn't In great chape for a while!
