try burning the ends of the rope

* Added - Heating the ends of a polyester or Nylon rope is the most common method used, although it generally does not present a good appearance. For hemp rope or larger diameters of Nylon or polyester, whipping is the best method. However, you can purchase a whipping glue that you dip the ends in as well.

Whipping is done by using a small line, usually of the same material as the rope being whipped. A long (4 to 5 times the diameter of the rope being whipped) narrow loop is made and laid on the rope end, loop facing away from the end. Then, very tightly, and beginning near, but slightly away from rope end, wrap the line around the rope, each turn alongside the one before it until you are near the narrow loop. Insert the end of the line into the loop. Now, pull the free end that is extending from underneath the turns you made, at the rope end. This wil pull the end of your line underneatht the tight turns, securing it. Trim both line ends and you're done and have a beautiful whipped rope end.
