Your parakeet will sit in a secluded place in the cage, such as a corner under some newspaper(if that is at the bottom).
My experience with a parakeet pair is that the female will spend time on the bottom of the cage looking for material to pile together to form a nest. If nothing is available the female could lay an egg anyway, even if a male isn't around. Without nesting material, the female I had pushed the egg around for most of a day until it broke. With nesting material (a small cardboard box with shredded paper and string) the female went inside, layed one or more eggs, and sat on them until they hatched (since she was also with a male bird).
She will probaly eat a lot more than normal. To test, put some sticks in her cage- and if she starts to build a nest then that usally means she's going to lay eggs in about a couple of days and to stop her having eggs make sure it is not warm where she is.
If your female has mated with a male parakeet, chances are eggs are on the way. However, females keets can lay infertile eggs without the benefit of a male bird (hormonal thing). There's really no way you would know in advance that a female is getting ready to lay eggs except that she may exhibit nesting behavior or her cloaca could look swollen just prior to laying an egg.
First you must figure out if your parakeet is Male or Female. To tell the gender of your parakeet look at the 'cere' above your birds beak. If this is bright blue then your budgie is a Male. If it is a Pinkish-Brown then your budgie is a Female. Males will not lay eggs.
You can get a rough idea of whether or not your budgie will lay eggs by reading these dot points. If all of these are 'ticked off' then it will be a quite, probable possibility:
1) Your budgie is female
2)There is an easy to access Nestbox
3)there is plenty of food
4)there is plenty of clean water
DO NOT GIVE YOUR BIRD A NESTBOX UNLESS IF YOU A PROPERLY BREEDING THEM OR PROBLEMS MAY OCCUR SUCH AS EGG BINDING!
Well, first the female would have to have been in the company of a male parakeet. The mating process does not happen with just one encounter ... it takes many attempts by the male. The female will lay an egg in about 30 hours if the fertilization was successful, after which about every two days later another egg and so forth two days apart. The female can lay up to 8 eggs.
The signs, before laying the first egg, will be that the bird will have larger than normal bowel movements, feather molting (for nesting) or exhibit signs that she would be might be more interested in the nesting box than usual.
Parakeets can commonly be egg bound, that is when the egg is stuck in the vulva which puts pressure on other parts of the bird and could cause certain death. If you suspect your parakeet is going to lay eggs, take her to your veterinarian to be sure that everything will be okay in the coming days
When there"s eggs in the nest or cage !!
the male will start feeding the hen
be careful to not brake the eggs and keep them warm.
A parakeet lays 3*3=9 in three days
No. Parakeets are supposed to lay many eggs, kind of like a chicken.
Parakeets do not give birth to live babies but rather they lay eggs. Each batch of eggs is called a clutch. After the female parakeet lays the eggs she lays on them to keep them warm until they hatch.
It your parakeet lays two eggs on the botton of the cage, you might as well just leave them alone. By know you should have a nest in the cage. it is a big box in the cage with a whole in it. we got one a couple days ago cause my bird laid 4 eggs!!!! i know it is crazy. Well, good luck with your parakeet!!! Essa
Parakeets lay fertile eggs when they are with the opposite gender (i.e male with female) and they have a warm, comfortable place to lay it such as a nest box.
The female lays the eggs
We will never know because roosters do not lay eggs.
it lays eggs
If you give your parakeet less than 12 hours a day they will not ley eggs
No. A chicken is a bird. No marsupial lays eggs.
It is where the eggs come out.
