In Hindu culture, a gothram refers to a lineage or clan that traces its ancestry to a common male ancestor. Members of the same gothram are considered descendants of this ancestor and are linked by that shared lineage. Gothrams are important in determining marriage compatibility and family relationships in certain communities.
