Well it all depends if the sound of the engine is abnormal or muffled then it prolly gone bad and if it dont start then well you know its bad
The starter solenoid is bad.
Usually when hot? Could be a starter going bad
You know the starter is going bad when you have a dragging starter.
One indication that the starter is going bad in your vehicle is if the vehicle won't start but the battery is full of life. When the starter is the reason, a very audible click will be heard.
It begins to sound bad: slow, crunchy, squeaky or some other bad noise.
The only 100% sure way to know is to remove the starter and had it bench tested at your local auto parts store.
When a starter goes completely out then the engine will not turn over. A starter that is going bad could start sometimes or make considerable noise.
If it feels like a straight flow than its good if it feels like its spitting than its bad
Noisy pump, hard starting, stalling.
If the starter is bad no. Check battery, starter and solenoid to be sure which is bad.
My suggestion is to make sure that you have a good connection between your starter and your battery. Is the starter even functioning? If not, it is probably a bad starter, a bad battery, a bad fusible link for the starter, a blown fuse, or just a bad connection. You usually can suspect that the starter is bad if you turn the ignition key and nothing happens. You hear a clicking sound but the engine does not turn over. The dash lights should come on.
