You will have a spot on the lip or mouth, then, it will start to hurt. Soon it will be a very noticible whitish spot on your lips. To get rid of these just get some carmex cold sore from the store

Cold sores are small blisters or ulcers around the mouth. Definite diagnosis is from culture of these sores. Other symptoms may involve numbness, tingling, or itching of the affected area. See your health care provider for appropriate diagnosis and treatment of your symptoms, and get screened for STDs at the same time.

The only way you would be able to tell is if you see a cold sore or blisters on or around their mouth. If they don't have a cold sore then you can't be sure if they have one or not unless they tell you about it.

Usually, the infected area is on or around your lips. Generally when a cold sore is coming in it becomes itchy and a tingling or discomfort where the cold sore(s) may be. Cold sores appear as small blisters and in an outbreak there may just be one or mutliple ones fairly close to one another. Hope this helped you out!

See your health care provider for an exam. The provider may decide to do a herpes culture to determine the cause of the problem with your lip.
