The car will not start after driving for a period of time. The lights are very dim while the engine is running and get darker , or the battery light is on in the dashboard.
i dont know if you have changed this alternator or not but if you have and the new one quit call me i know the problem mine went out 5 times before i figured it out. 252-814-9267
wires are crossed or you have a short in the wiring from the alternator to the battery.
The reason why it won't start is because its your alternator...... My uncles chev truck made the same kinda sound when his alternator went....
yes! had this problem for years bought a new alternator all my problems went away.
I have a 95 G20 drove it like this for almost a year with it going on and off at times then one day it died- alternator finally went. alternator!!! and or ground to alternator.
Output of the alternator is controlled by the voltage regulator.
I just went through this with my Windstar - stopped by my favorite Autozone and they did a pretty thorough electrical test, including the alternator and battery. Most of the auto parts stores offer free testing. Easiest thing to do is remove the positive connection to your battery if you Freestar stalls....Alternator is no good(just happened to me)
When my jeep cherokee alternator went bad, the check engine light came on and I didnt have a clue what was going on until my volt guage was reading in the red zone. When I replaced my alternator, the light went off. So in my opinion i wouldnt consider the check engine light as a alternator light.
My dash lights went out and the cause was a bad alternator. new alternator fixed the problem
It could be your battery, the alternator or your starter... but more than likely it sounds like your alternator is bad.
In my case the bearing went bad and "froze" making a loud noise and making the fan belt smoke. If it does not make a noise, check the voltmeter on your dash - failure to charge could indicate the alternator is not working, but I think others things are more likely . It should be easy for a mechanic to test to see if the alternator is charging.
I have a 1997 ford expedition that the alternator is not charging the battery. Had the alternator tested and it was good the battery is new. Cant find the fuse for the alternator does anyone know where it is?
