My child is always depressed one minuet, then happy the next, she runs of angry to her room and when I go in there she is happily playing on her computer seemingly unaware as to what happened also regularly spaces out, what should I do, should I take her to a psychiatrist?
If your child has never suffered from any major dramatic trauma then she is highly unlikely to have MPD/DID. She could be bi-polar. Either way if you are concerned with her behavior then taking her to a psychiatrist is a very good idea. It can't hurt, right? Good Luck.
No. Sybill is about Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder). If you watched the movie I don't know how you could miss it, because it states it very clearly.
* Antisocial personality disorder - Psychopaths/sociopaths * Narcissistic personality disorder * Histrionic personality disorder * Schizoid personality disorder * Borderline personality disorder These all have some of the symptoms of sociopaths, there may be more but these are the ones that I currently know of. This is a good reference site: http://www.crescentlife.com/disorders/personality_disorders.htm
Answer I don't know if its so much from culture as is might be that you were a spoiled child and you get on and complain when you can't have your way.
People with Dissociative Personality Disorder (Previously known as Multi-Personality Disorder) are most of the time unaware that the other personalities exist.
It is a symptom of antisocial personality disorder. it can be associated witH Borderline Personality Disorder- someone i know has that and she would tell bizarre fibs to get attention or avoid people walking away from her when she was upset or eveni think to get what she wants when under severe stress and anxiety

No. In fact, multiple personality disorder is not what the disorder is called. Dissociative identity disorder is what most people call multiple personality disorder. It is a dissociative disorder characterized by the presence of two or more distinct patterns of behavior. There is actually little interference with the social, occupational, and education aspect of a person's life. Schizophrenia is a psychosis characterized by two or more of the following: delusions, hallucinations, disorders of thought, grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior, and negative symptoms. It interferes extremely with social, occupational, and educational aspects of one's life.
In the case of HPD, they don't know yet. In the case of APD, they're finding brain based and biological evidence of factors such as brain malfunction.
I know my disorders. My psychologist has diagnosed me as having paranoid personality disorder, psychotic disorder not otherwise specified, and possibly schizotypal personality disorder. But the medications I take help control most of my symptoms. I'm not ashamed to admit my illness. Mental illness is a disease just as diabetes or heart disease is, and it can be treated.

borderline personality disorder Not by a longshot.....Borderline personality disorder is a personality disorder that involves the thought processes of the individual who has it. There is no chemical component and, although meds can control some symptoms, they cannot manage all as is the case with bipolar disorder. Borderline personality disorder is difficult to cope with because it can mimic any and all psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder...but also schizophrenia, sociopathic, psychopathic, depressed, etc. Typically, there are lies and manipulation involved. There is more self-mutilation (basically, self-mutilators are diagnosed with this) and other self- destructive behaviors. YES, they can have mood swings, but much faster and more often that ohse with bipolar disorder. I don't know who answered this, but they are WRONG. Want examples? Go look up famous people with each disorder. You'll see....good luck!
