Take it to a shop and have them diagnose the transmission shift times and booster pressures. The automatic transmission has the ability to compensate for wear over it's life. It could be worn but it adjusts pressures and shift times to compensate.
The 1997 and 1999 Chevy Cavalier transmissions are exactly the same. The transmissions, transmission linkage, and transmission mounts are identical.
