It's not really fair or scrupulous, but you could try asking them while they are sleeping and have entered a REM state. This could depend on the boy, the secret, and yourself. If he feels very embarrassed about it then maybe, or if you are chatty and likely to tell someone he may feel nervous. If you want, you may try initiating conversation with him and letting him know you won't tell anyone and that you don't think it's bad/a big deal.
