The quickest way is to connect the motherboard to a power supply, attach video (and video card if there is not one on-board), keyboard, mouse, and memory and turn it on. The screen should show the video subsystem first, then it will either show a system information screen or a pretty logo. You SHOULD get an error that the floppy drive is not working. If so, that means that the motherboard is OK. If you get no video at all, and it has on-board video, check your jumpers to make sure the onboard video is not disabled. If it IS enabled and there is still no picture, just put some butter on it, it is toast! Steve
The only way to know for sure is to try all the other hardware in another machine or to try running the motherboard with known-good CPU, ram, etc.
However, the caveat is that whatever fried the motherboard may have fried other hardware as well... If you try the CPU in another machine & its bad, it could be bad in addition to the motherboard.
It also depends largely on your symptoms, feel free to post details by using the "discuss" option in the left frame.
lights and fans come on but nothing more boots up
Do not worry, buy another computer, when it becomes old. You only will be able to know that if you replace the motherboard for a new one. That's risky.
The Northbridge is one of the most important parts of a motherboard's architecture. When it goes out there's not much you can do about it except get a new motherboard.
you won't have a picture
The playstation 3 will not work.
william tell shot an apple off his sons head
You check your manual for your desktop or the motherboard manual.
You cannot tell by looking at AGP slot. You need to refer to motherboard manual. Or Please give the motherboard model. you cannot find it by just looking. You need to see the motherboard manual. OR please give the motherboard model.
This all depends on the motherboard and the processor type. Rule of thumb...If there is a release of some sort, a lever, a bush tab etc it is removable.
Tell the barman you asked for a shot of whisky
you will shoot me
William Tell supposedly shot an apple off of his son's head with an arrow.
You can tell when you get an ultrasound; there's no way to tell by the calendar.
Check the specs of the motherboard youre purchasing or call the company
