Diamonds are erupted to the earth's surface by volcanic pipes. Trace minerals, such as kimberlite are always erupted by volcanic pipes, and about one in 200 volcanic pipes also erupts diamonds.

A geologist can help a land owner or land lessee determine whether or not trace minerals are evident, and with further exploration determine whether or not diamonds are also evident in the geography.
