Because of what is written in the history books. You can see, by reading & observation, that times change & humankind makes progress over a period of time. There are many, many examples of the nature of things which exist now, which not very long ago were unthought of. The computer screen you are reading this on now was not a part of human existence even a few years ago. Whereas the previous generation would not have seen this as a possibility, the next generation will know of it as commonplace..... & that is progress.
