Umm, I'm not sure there is a way to. I know that on MySpace you can tell when the message has been read but I really don't think there is a way to tell if someone has read an e-mail. I'm sure they'll be coming out with a way to do this in the future.
Yes. If it's on an iPhone or something like that it will make a "swoosh" noise which means it reached it's destination. It should also say sending and then when it's gone, it met it's destionation.

Answer You could always ask the person in question to confirm that indeed they received the email or if in the case that you received the invitation by email you could aways write them back notifying them that you received their email
