Generally a grinding sound can be heard from the offending wheel at first. If a wheel bearing is suspect, jack one side of the car up at a time and grab the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock position and see if the wheel has excessive play on the horizontal axis. If there is play, then a wheel bearing failure is likely.

Really need to know the year, make, model and front or rear wheel bearing to answer this correctly.
Need to know if it is 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.
Timken bearing better but I dont know
Yes, provided you have the necessary tools and know-how to do it.
If you hear a noise you suspect is a bad wheel bearing try this. While driving slowly turn the wheel sharply to the left. If the noise goes away your left front wheel bearing is bad. Now, turn sharply to the right. If the noise goes away you right front wheel bearing is bad. The only 100% sure fire way to know for sure is to remove the wheel bearing and inspect it.
yes I have had my wheel bearing replaced free under warranty. just don't let them know that you could have possibly damaged it under human error and it shouldn't be a problem.
I don't know I asked the question and need a answer
The way to tell if you have a bad wheel bearing is when you are driving and go into a hard corner. The wheel that is on the inside of the corner stops making a humming noise. I just replaced my Driver Rear bearing on my 2004 VW Gti
It kind of depends on what vehicle you're talking about. On no vehicle (that I know of) will you be able to see the actual bearing unless you take apart the wheel hub, but on some vehicles you will be able to see the wheel bearing assembly whether you're changing tie rod ends or otherwise.
I know in my 1995 Accord my mechanic had to heat up the old bearing after removing 3 screws and then use a bearing puller to finally remove. The new ones then have to be pressed. I hope this helps tip: Timpkin Bearings are very good and most reasonably priced--I got both for less than $75
The wheel bearing comes as a complete hub and you have to take the whole hub assembly apart. Best bet is to get a mechanic to do it as its quite a big job if you don't know what you are doing
