It is usually not an exact science as to knowing the set date or time that you will get your first period. Generally, it can be somewhere similar to other family members. (They must be biological, though. Married in or adopted doen't count.) This could mean any older sisters, girl cousins, aunts, grandmas, and your own mother. Weight can also affect it. Though it is not definite, some believe being heavier can speed up the onset of puberty. It is thought that factors like chemicals and hormones in food can speed up puberty, but that is not exactly proven yet. A general sense to know it might come soon is once you begin to develop. This can be anywhere from breasts beginning to develop, to more oily skin, to hair growth, to a more curved figure. All of these signs indicate that puberty is going on for you and that you will get your first period soon if you had not already gotten it.
