Usually a female livebearer swims in sudden dashes from one spot to another when she is very close to giving birth and she continues to do this while she is dropping her fry. Often she will dash from close to the bottom (gravel) of the tank and end up near the surface. If you look closely at the place she dashed from you are quite likely to see tiny fish.

They become very alert. You will notice that she keeps her pectoral fins twitching and her tail too her breathing becomes more rapid and you will see her little gilld going like crazy. When she is ready to drop her young she probably will go down to the bottom of the tank and then make a dash across the tank comming to a sudden stop. When you see this kind of behaviour look at the place she dashed from. That is where you are likely to see a baby or two.

With all the livebearers in fish, you can tell if they are pregnant by looking for a dark spot towards the rear of their abdomens. If they are not pregnant, it will be clear and when pregnant dark looking, like a dark spot.
