Why does paralysis occur when someone injures their spinal cord?

The spinal cord is the main line that brings all nerve signals back to the brain so when this is damaged it interrupts the line. When the line is damaged bad enough the signal cannot pass and therefore cannot communicate with the brain. When for example the legs can no longer communicate with the brain they can no longer receive the "orders" to move, meaning paralysis.

What is a spinal cord and how does it assist the brain?

your spinal cord is like a cord that runs down your back inside of your spinal bones that make up your spine, essentially. the spinal cord is attached to your brain, and is like a big nerve. The spinal cord assists the brain by "sending" your brain messages. this is how you know if things are hot or not, it starts are the place being exposed to heat, then travels from the nerve endings, all the way to the spinal cord, which then "sends" the message to the brain, and tells you its hot. That's how it works

Why is it that you got paralyzed when your spinal cord gets damaged?

first of all we all know that the spinal cord contains the the motor alfa that is the motor neuron that causes the muscle to contract,so when the spinal cord gets damaged no stimulation arrives to the muscles below the lesion level..

Is the spinal cord in the skeletal system?

yes it is in the skeletal system. i know it is hard to believe but it is!For the spinal cord, with its tracts of nerve fibres traveling to and from the back and on the sides the cord is enclosed and protected by the portion.

Do all tracts from the cerebrum to the spinal cord go through the entire brainstem?

well if you dont know that simple fact, then im afraid i do not trust your cerebrum, cerebellum OR spinal cord to withhold that information.

What part of the nervous system performs information processing and integration?

The central nervous system, which consists of the brain and spinal cord. The message travels from the sensory nerves to the spinal cord, then to the brain. The brain tells the spinal cord what to do and the spinal cord then tells the motor nerves.
