How can a person tell if he or she is addicted to a drug?

Some signs are someone always laying around,sweating,irritable,asking for a pain pill to you or family members,always complaining of body pain everyday like hinting around,refusing regular over the counter pain medication saying "oh that dont help",things coming up missing from your home,the person leaving and coming right back or staying gone for days at a time,different people calling their phones,so so many more signs. Sadly, there aren't many ways to tell if someone is addicted to drugs.

But, if you already know that they are doing drugs, then how you can tell if they are addicted to drugs is if they are doing drugs all the time.

If they do drugs all the time, and act like they're insane when they don't have drugs, then they are addicted.

The best thing to do for them is tell them that the drugs are very bad for their body, and you love them and don't want to see anything bad happen to them. Tell them that they have to stop or the damage they are doing to their body will kill them. If that doesn't work, then get them some professional help.

A person can be "addicted" to many different things; behaviors, alcohol, drugs, relationships, sex, etc. Typically, when a person has a compulsion, obsession, an inability to stop (without help) , remain stopped, or struggles to control the frequency and/or amount of a substance/behavior is when the word 'addiction' is used. When addicted to something, people often ignore adverse effects or negative consequences. Old interests are replaced by the addictive behavior, and new behaviors pop up that allow the user to continue using. These can include hiding consumption, having stashes, always making sure there is a supply, lying, stealing, cheating, sneaking, problems with the law, relationships, or work, and financial difficulties. If you find yourself having to compensate in order to use/behave in a certain way, there may be a problem. Taking risks, denial, obsession, and withdrawal are all signs of addiction. If one is using a substance or behavior in order to deal with general life or larger problems, they may need to reevaluate their relationship with the addiction.

• Have your friends and family said anything to you about it?
• Are you spending more time taking whatever it is or thinking about it than going about your normal life?
• Do you experience withdrawal symptoms if you try to cut down (shakes, diarrhea, vomiting, etc)?
• Have you tried to quit or cut down and not been able to?
• Have you worried about your use?

If you're getting a lot of "yes" answers, you might be addicted. Talk to your doctor about it.
