Both users got to me online for messages to be delivered. Nuff said.

If you were really in online mode, you'd be able to see/leave messages. If you can't see them, you must be on offline mode.
you type them
No.
It will only be pending if someone if offline or your internet connection isn't working. It will stop pending as soon as the person receives that message.
Yes, I know! You can not retrieve the offline messages in yahoo messenger! :)
Yes. If you call someone offline you'll get the voice mail greeting. Talk your message into the microphone after the beep.
As of March 2013, Windows Web Messenger was upgraded to integrate with Skype. Some of the new features now available include album viewer, appear offline to individuals or to groups (and ability to send offline messages), content filtering and social media interaction, to name a few. The integration of Skype has added several bonuses such as improved video calling.
currently no, the only way you can know is if the person leaves a voicemail.
Red means the person is busy, orange means the person is away, green means they are available or you can leave them a voice mail, gray means they are offline.
One easily overlooked and very simple solution is that within skype you are 'offline'. When you are trying to dial and it is not working, go to the top left corner of the page. There are a number of tabs there. One simply says 'skype'. It has a little drop down menu on it. You will see what you need to do. For some reason, on some computers skype installs and is 'on line', while on others it seems to install offline. So before you check firewalls and ports and all of that, check to see that you are actually on line. Strangely, it is even possible to access the skype help page via the internet and still be offline.
Skype is compatible with Facebook. Users can send instant messages or participate in video chats directly through Facebook via Skype.
