You will need a secure cage filled with the following items for your pet rat:

Bedding (Could be receiving blankets, cloth or commercial small animal bedding)
Litter (Could be shredded paper or commercial small animal litter)
Water Bottle
Food bowl with commercial rat staple diet (Can offer treats as well)
Wooden chew toys (so they can gnaw and wear their teeth down)

Be advised the if you have open cuts or wounds, you could be at risk to obtain a disease from your rat due to their urine and feces bacteria entering the wound. Always cover open sores and cuts before handling a pet rat. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the rat.
