Use penetrating oil and correct size wrench.
there should be a tensioner pully. Put the 3/8 ratchet in the center of it and turn.
It has a serpentine belt and has a self adjusting tensioner.

Loosen the tensioner pulley on your 2001 Chevy Impala. The serpentine belt will become loose. Take the old belt off and put the new belt on. Tighten the new serpentine belt with the tensioner pulley.
There should be a small square hole near the tensioner pully. A 3/8 socket driver will fit in the hole and then you can losen the tensioner.
There is no way to adjust the belt tensioner, if it's not keeping enough tension on the belt the complete tensioner itself will need replaced.

You can change the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. When the tensioner pulley is loose and the serpentine belt will become loose. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
Must loosen the nut that goes through the tensioner. Pop the belt off, and put a wrench on the outside nut of the tensioner, so it will catch something when you torque the inside nut. You should be able to loosen the tensioner enough to get the strap wiggling enough to pop it off the thermostat housing stud.
Put the serpentine belt on to the pulleys of your 1994 Chevy engine. Tighten a serpentine belt with the tensioner pulley.
check the serpentine belt tensioner for being bad, it might not be keeping the drive belt tight enough against the pulleys.
