The HCG diet is a popular weight loss program that helps users lose weight quickly. With any new diet, there comes benefits and side effects. The HCG has both. The main benefit is rapid weight loss. Does that outweigh the risk of side effects? The most common side effects of the HCG diet include light-headedness, irritability, fatigue, and headaches. These are due to the low calorie diet and your body having to use stored fat as energy. Before starting any diet, consider the side effects and how the HCG diet may effect your body.

Furthermore, if you restrict your diet too much you will be missing out on important vitamins and minerals. The diet drops themselves have relatively modest known side effects, including nausea, drowsiness, and headaches. However, the full diet, which includes consuming approximately 500kcal a day, is essentially a starvation diet. You may lose weight quickly, but it is likely due to the restricted intake, not the HCG, and it will likely be short term. [Source: FDA]

No. The best you can hope to achieve is a weight neutral medication when talking about antidepressants. The fact is, SSRI's can cause significant weight gain, among other side effects. If you are looking to take a medication to feel better and lose weight, you have the wrong class of drugs. The key is to quickly treat depression and return to a state of normalcy as quickly and aggressively as possible. The faster remission (minimal or no symptoms) is reached, the more likely you are to not gain weight, prevent recurrent episodes and/or lengthen the time between depressive episodes... and obviously feel like yourself sooner.
