I prefer my customers pools to be below 70 ppm. Anything above is excessive and unnecessary.
Pools are maintained by weekly testing the levels of Chlorine, pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness, Cyanuric Acid, and Phosphates. Pools also needed to be cleaned by scrubbing pool walls with brushes and vacuuming any dirt or debris on the surface or in the pool water.
Cyanuric acid is generally called chlorine stabilizer and it is used to prevent the suns UV rays from eating up the chlorine in outdoor pools. Because most spa's are covered when not in use this is generally not a concern for spa or hot tub owners. If you do however have an outdoor uncovered spa and you wish to raise the CYA level you would simply visit your local pool supply store and purchase some chlorine stabilizer, just ask for cyanuric acid and they will know what to get you.
Cyanuric acid is a stabiliser that stabilises chlorine and stops it from being burned of by the sun. Cyanuric acid and stabiliser are both the same product.
Cyanuric acid is not the same as muriatic acid. Cyanuric acid is odorless and white in color. It is used as a component of disinfectants, bleaches, and herbicides. Muriatic acid is clear solution of hydrogen chloride in water.
Indoor swimming pools can use bromine. You can't use bromine on outdoor pools because there is no cyanuric acid in bromine. In other words, bromine molecules would have a very short life, almost worthless, in an outdoor pool.

Assuming no other complaints you would only need to change water to lower the total dissolved solids level or cyanuric acid level. TDS should be below 500ppm and cyanuric acid ~50 ppm.
