I have this issue with my 97 740iL due to stripped gears in read shade motor, this is how I manually lower the rear shade to clean the window. You need two people or a long stick. First, 1 person in the front seat and one person in the back seat. While pressing the down shade power button help the shade down ... opposite for up again.
