it depends on which lvl your Pokemon is. A lvl 100 swampert is stronger than a lvl 99 sceptile, but a lvl 100 sceptile is stronger than a lvl 99 swampert. If you want your Pokemon to be stronger than the other, you jut have to train it a few lvls higher. But sometimes a Pokemon has a special move. they can defeat Pokemon of many lvls higer with that. well swampert is water ground and sceptile is grass so if you matched them up to battle each other no crap im going with sceptile 4 times effective to swampert all tho i love swampert blaziken and sceptile but i prefer grass Pokemon its just me.

get a well balenced team then work up their lvl by battleing more wild Pokemon until they reach lvl 25, then you can beat brock easily, then beat him over and over again until lvl 35 then beat bugsy. then do the same thing with brock except lvl 35 do the same thing to the other gym leaders. everytime you beat a leader raise ur pokemons lvl by 10 lvls. then when you have beat all the leaders look for rare Pokemon and raise them all to lvl 100. Then tecnicaly you have ruled Pokemon crater.

You fill it up by killing various monsters and doing quests, each which give a certain amount, which may vary. You cannot gain xp from monsters 5 lvls below you until lvl 30, and you will gain only a tiny amount or no xp from quests whose name is grey in your quest log. Also, the higher lvl you are, the more xp you need to lvl up.
