Wrap several layers of thinly insulated wire round the nail(s), and connect the bared ends of the wire to the positive and negative terminals of a 9 volt battery. As the electrical current is sent through the coiled wire, the iron nail(s) becomes electro-magnetised and will attract metal. Turn the current off, and the metal will drop off, for the nail(s) are no longer magnetised.
