You would contruct the 3d object from scratch in a 3d program, the 2d images would be used for reference. If they are orthographic images, they can be used in the program's backdrop for the Top, Side, and Front or Back viewports to assist in modeling. The modeler then uses planes called "polygons" that are held together with points, to create the shape of the object. Once the model is created, textures are added on top of it to give it it's color.

If you want to turn a 2D image into a 3D model yourself, not just a general idea of how its is done, you would first have to learn modeling starting with the very basics of 3D and the basic tools of a 3d program. 3D modeling is a very involved process and is too complicated to explain in one answer or in words alone. You can get a free trial for Digital Tutors, they hav great tutorial videos, and even have a section titled "Beginner's Guide to Modeling in 3ds Max" that will teach you how to model from the complete basics.

Which 3D LED TVs have the 2D to 3D conversion?

LG and Samsung have this feature. Be aware that converting 2D to 3D is not a perfect process and the 3D images may not be accurate or realistic. 3D televisions are designed to work with 3D content so any simulation of 3D from 2D content must be regarded as a bonus feature.

What is the difference between 2D and 3D graphics?

In 2D, the dimensions consist of the length and width. In 3D, the dimensions consist of length, width, & depth. To further expand on this, 2D images have an X and Y axis, the X axis is horizontal and Y is vertical. 3D images have an X, Y, and Z axis, the Z being for depth.

What are some good programs to turn a 2d character into 3d?

2D images and 3D models don't correlate as a 2D image has only 1 face. Whereas a 3D image can be manipulated through a 360 perspective. To cut a long story short, you would need to render an image from start to finish as a 3D model. You could use the 2D image as something to guide you.Try Autocad's 3Ds Max, however if you pay for it you will find it's expensive... Though I won't go into any other ways of obtaining it.Hope this helps
