Im not quite sure, but from what ive heard there are mixed reviews. Some say that you cant downgrade a 3.90 firmwire. Some say that you can downgrade any firmwire with a pandora's battery. Its quite confusing to me. I havent do it because im not sure what will happen. I, too, have a 3.90 firmwire. I dont want to waste a perfectly good battery trying to make a pandora's that might not even work. But i am getting closer to my answer. Im still leaning toward making the magic memory stick and pandora's battery. Ive read so many instructions on how to do it I can make my own forum and tell people how to do it.

It depends on what update version you have if you have 5.00 then you are going to need the pandoras battery you can make it on your own!!! its not that hard... You can also buy it ... And you are also going to need to get a magic memory stick... you can also make that on your own anything you do is your fault... im not taking any credit for this... if your psp gets briked you can also unbrick it using the pandoras battery, you can also downgrade it gives you an opption Andrew

Firstly, a 'Pandora's Battery' is a modified battery and a specially prepared memory stick. Both of these can be created on most PSPs, but some recent motherboards are unable to do it - it will be part of Sony's anti-piracy countermeasures.If you are unable to hard-mod your battery, then the only option is to softmod it on another PSP, as well as using that one to create the 'magic memory stick' component too.

definitely no the best u can downgrade without a Pandora battery is 3.03.... what you can do is use the Pandora battery to downgrade and the results will be great I've done it on my psp and when i downgraded my psp i got to download as many games that can fit into my psp(full games of course) so downgrade your psp using a Pandora battery:)
