To make a lanyard with five strings, first, gather your materials: five lengths of cord or string of equal size. Tie them together at one end with a secure knot. Then, braid or weave the strings together, using a pattern that you prefer, such as a simple braid or a more complex design. Once you reach your desired length, tie off the other end and secure it with a knot.

Start the lanyard with a lanyard hook and cross over your two strings. Keep weaving by making two loops (doing this by flipping two strings of the same color over to the opposite side) then take the other two strings and make them skip over the first loop (from their "perspective") and then through the second loop (also from their "perspective") until you want to end it and tie it A lanyard string is a flat string that you can weave to make designs. The process, while relatively simple, can be used to create quite complex patterns and designs. The best way to learn is to find someone to teach you. Often Scouts and Boatswain Mates know how to do it.
