The best place to hang a ceiling fixture would depend on the room you are putting it in. For example in the dining room you would want to center it over your table. Living rooms and bedrooms usually will be in the center of the room.
The bed and rails of the table must receive at least 520 lux (48 footcandles) of light at every point. A screen or reflector configuration is advised so that the center of the table does not receive noticeably more lighting than the rails and the corners of the table. If the light fixture above the table may be moved aside (referee), the minimum height of the fixture should be no lower than 40 inches [1.016 m] above the bed of the table. If the light fixture above the table is non-movable, the fixture should be no lower than 65 inches[1.65 m] above the bed of the table. The intensity of any directed light on the players at the table should not be blinding. Blinding light starts at 5000 lux (465 footcandles) direct view. The rest of the venue (bleachers, etc.) should receive at least 50 lux (5 footcandles) of light.
The specific height of a light above a table depends on the purpose of the table. It is recommended that a light be about 30 inches above a dining room table and about 18 inches above a gaming or work table.
Very easy to do. Remove the two cap screws from the lens fixture (uses a 6mm socket, I believe). Very carefully use a flat tip screwdriver to gently pry the fixture from the underneath side of the trunk lid, and it should hang down with the light fixture attached to it. The fixture is made of a rubber-like plastic, so gently working it side to side will free it from the lens fixture. Remove the bulb from the light fixture by pulling it straight out (looks like an ancient camera bulb). You could use a 161 or 168 light bulb, but I used a 194 bulb (costs a little over $2.00 at O'Reillys) to reinstall into the light fixture. Going in reverse method, place the light fixture into lens fixture, and reassemble the lens fixture back to the trunk lid. Piece of cake!
Mount the box one to two inches above where the top of the mirror will be.
Posters, diplomas, wall hangings, and pictures all hang on walls. One term for a wall-mounted light fixture is a sconce.
Not a good practice. Depending on the weight of the fixture it may pull out of the ceiling sooner or later. Even if it seems strong, what if there were a leak and the Sheetrock became wet and the fixture fell on someone and hurt them. You need to install a fixture made for ceiling installation that is attached properly to something other than Sheetrock.
How to Hang a Ceiling Light FixtureA new light fixture is a great way to update a room. Follow these steps to remove the old fixture and install the new one safely and properly.Turn of the power at the circuit breaker panel and make sure the light switch is off as well. Remove the light cover and bulb. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the old fixture in place. Ensure the power is off by using a circuit tester. Remove the wire nuts from the black, white and green wires. These are the hot, neutral and ground wires respectively. Untwist the wires and remove the old light fixture. Make a support bracket to hold the new fixture in place from two "S" hooks and some wire. Make a loop at each end of the wire, slip an "S" hook through each loop. Connect one hook to the light support bracket and the other end to the new light fixture. Twist the black wires together, followed by the white wires and then the green ones. Remove the wire support that you made and gently push the wires back inside the fixture's electrical junction box. Use a screwdriver and screws to attach the new fixture to the mounting bracket. Screw in the light bulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs are an environmentally friendly option. Attach the light cover. Turn on the power and test the light.
Far enough that it does not blind you when you are working at the sink and not so far as to cast a shadow. 12" to the center of the light is perfect.
it depends upon the wattage of light bulb used, but generally around 3 feet
You can supply the voltage to the swag from a wall box but the whole purpose of a swag fixture is to have it hang from the ceiling. You are going to have to find a way to support the fixture. If you can not get support from behind the ceiling then the support is going to have to be on the exposed surface side that you can see. You will probably have to span two ceiling joists and hang the fixture some where in between them to suit your purposes.
The answer depends on how much you want your "table topper" to hang over the edge of the table. If you want 6 inches of over-hang, then you would double 6 inches to have 12 inches of over-hang then add that to the diameter of your table: 12 + 60 = 72 inches of total "table topper".
