What I was told, I am doing it right now, is to place the foot (once cut off at ankle) vertically, with the flesh side down, in a bowl or cup, and cover it with salt.

so what a did is I got a paper cup, filled the bottom with salt so the fleshy side would get soaked with the salt.

Then I stuck the foot down and rubbed the flesh on the salt a little, then I held it upright and poured salt all around it and eventually over it.

Then I was told to let it sit in the sun for a while, somewhere between a few weeks and a month.

I am not sure about this technique, it's probably not the most modern, but salt dehydrates meat I know that much, and that's the goal after all.

Making a lucky rabbit's foot involves removing the foot from a rabbit, preserving it through a specialized process, and then attaching it to a keychain or piece of jewelry. However, using a real rabbit's foot for luck is controversial and considered unethical by some due to animal welfare concerns.

people say you should face the flesh down and put salt on it.

people also put it round there necks as a sign of good luck.

but it's not very lucky for the rabbit.
