Mobile numbers in the Dominican Republic are not easily distinguishable from landline numbers. They all use the same geographic area codes, +1 809, +1 829, and +1 849. The country code +1 is North America, the same as the USA and Canada, but area codes 809, 829, and 849 are exclusively for the Dominican Republic.

From any GSM mobile phone, just program in the number as +1 8x9 xxx xxxx (including the plus symbol).

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

The Dominican Republic uses the same United States system. TO dial from the united states you just have to call as to anothe US state dialing 1 for national longdistance call before the area code and phone number;

EX: 1 (809) 965-0442

The telephone country code for the United States is +1, followed by a 3-digit area code and 7-digit subscriber number.

If you are calling on a GSM mobile phone (or some other mobile phones), dial the number in international format, beginning with the plus symbol. The mobile network will automatically insert any needed prefix.

If you are calling from a landline in Colombia, you must dial 00, followed by the carrier selection code for the long distance company with which you choose to place the call, and then the country code, area code, and number.

The carrier selection code is 5 for UNE, 7 for ETB, 9 for Movistar, 414 for Tigo, 444 for Claro Movil, or 456 for Claro Fijos.
