ice cream (as many scoops as you want) -- on the bottom
chocolate syrup or hot fudge -- on top of the ice cream
whipped cream -- on top of the syrup
a cherry on the top
A fantastic sundae includes the minimum ingredients plus any variety of:
some type of fruit (most commonly a banana or strawberries)
caramel syrup
sprinkles
another flavor of ice cream
some sort of candy or candies (Oreos, gummy bears, m&m's, mint paddies, skittles, etc.)
maybe even a baked good crumbled in it too (such as a brownie or cookie)
