if your mac has a webcam you can you apps like photo booth (which are already in download in your mac) to record videos. also you can use iMovie  for editing movies you have recorded. if you have a video recorder you can plug it in and start editing. hope that helps!

If you have Mac OS 10.6 "Snow Leopard" you start QuickTime Player and pick "New Screen Recording" from the file menu.

If you have older versions of Mac OS X, you purchase separate applications like iShowU or Snapz Pro.

I would recommend getting the Snagit   free trial. This will allow you to easily record your screen whenever you want for 30 days. I use it personally for PC so I'm unsure about it working on Mac.
