How do you make a simple kidney model?

First, get the following items:

• One paper towel tube (just the cardboard)
• one or two pink sponges-old dish sponges work great
• red and blue marker or paint
• white paper
• glue stick or school glue

Wrap the outside of the tube with the white paper, overlapping if necessarily, and glue the seam so that you know have a paper wrapped tube.

Cut the sponge into equal halves and stuff inside cardboard tube.

You want the sponge to be visible but not sticking out of the end of the tube.

Depending on the detail of the bone, you will want to draw or paint the vessels or canals on the outside of the tube.

If you want to get really detailed you can cut a portion of the top tube off, in order to show a cross-section of the bone. You can then mount to poster board or cardboard with labels or you can insert toothpicks with paper taped to the top labeling the sections.

Don't forget to pull up a good image of a bone so you can ensure your model looks correct.
