How do you make a town out of cookies?

This will take a good imagination and the enjoyment of experimenting.

Buy cookies of various shapes and sizes. You can purchase icing/frosting in a can, but you can also make a stiff icing from powdered sugar and milk or water. Make a small batch of icing to test for its consistency after it sets and dries. You can color your icing with food coloring to even come up with shades of browns and blacks. You will use this icing as one would use glue (or cement?), to hold the pieces of your town together.

Purchase various types of candies and candy sprinkles (gum drops, gummy worms or shapes, licorice strips, etc.). When you are looking at candy pieces, imagine them covered with colored icing or plain, and what they could represent in a town.

Cut out a large piece of cardboard. Tape wax paper or freezer paper around the cardboard. Plan (draw), the set up of your town on a piece of paper before you begin laying it out on the cardboard.

After you have experimented with and found the right consistency for your icing, spread it over most of the paper for your foundation. Then begin placing your town on the icing, using the rest of your icing as glue to hold pieces together as you have designed it.
