Click the magnifying glass on the top right, then you can search questions filtered by categories and status (answered or not).
One way to do it is to go to your profile. Then under your badges click on Find Friends. Then once that page loads click on questions and then run your search.

The only reason someone would use an advanced search is if they didn't find what they were looking for with the first search. First searches usually turn up what a searcher is looking for and rarely is the advanced search option used.
