A tortilla (flour or corn) is warmed or fried crisp in a u-shape. Then it's filled with any one or more of many fillings - ground beef, chicken, vegetables, cheese, sour cream, potato, chorizo, barbacoa, lingua, eggs, etc. Then you fold up the taco if the tortilla is soft and eat up.
Well first, you select any meat you want and cook it through in a pan. Next, if it is a whole cut, you cut it into strips. Mix those strips, or if you used ground meat mix the meat in with taco seasoning mixed with water according to the directions on the package. Now, place the meat in either a basic or fried tortilla which you can buy in any grocery store. Add what ever else you want, cheese, lettuce tomato, onion, olives, re-fried beans, onions, sour cream, whatever you like. There you go, you have a taco.
There are many recipes and techniques to making taco salad, but I have a unique way of making it that people love. I've even been called the Taco Salad Lady. Below is the recipe and technique I use to make my special Taco Salad:
Brown and drain 2 or more pounds ground beef.
Mix in 2 or more envelopes taco salad mix according to directions.
As you prepare the ingredients and place them in bowls, set them on the serving table with the others.
Set the ingredients in individual bowls on the serving table in a sort of assembly line fashion in the following order. This will allow your guests to layer and choose their ingredients, creating their own taco salad:
Use large plates because by the time they layer all the ingredients, they will have a huge delicious taco salad.
Go to the store; buy chicken or flat iron steak, tortillas, bell peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, sour cream, and salsa, as well as any fajita seasoning packet. McCormick is what I use. Fry the chopped steak or chicken in vegetable oil and also throw in the bell peppers and onions, then mix in seasoning. Fry on med-high heat for around 5-10 mins or until meat browns and onions begin to caramelize. Once the veggies and meat are cooked, place them on a tortilla along with tomatoes, sour cream, cheese, and salsa. You are now finished. Enjoy!
Season and marinate beef or chicken strips in spices such as paprika, cumin, etc. Grill with onions and peppers and serve with toppings of choice.
Once you have the tortillas build the taco as usual with meat, beans, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes and any other toppings you like. See Related Link
Prepare the desired filling for your taquitos, roll it up in a tortilla (I prefer corn), then fry in a pan with oil until tortilla is crispy on the outside.
